Botox in the stars!!
Keeping an eye on whats new with the stars is always a fun hobby to have and so randomly I'll "google" to see who's getting what. Tonight I came across some of the "Botox Believers" who believe in preventative measure rather than letting it get to the correction stage. Thanks to TOCR for putting me in the know ;)
BOTOX BELIEVERS
You need to believe in something, so why not believe in Botox?
Young celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, 29, seem to have adopted that philosophy, putting their faith in facial injections as a technique for stopping wrinkles before they form.
Other young stars are rumored to have turned to Botox too, including Hilary Duff, 22, and even Lindsay Lohan, 23, although her face is looking more wrinkled than Botox would allow.
Botox is gaining popularity among starlets in Hollywood, but that’s not a nationwide trend. Despite extensive media coverage, surveys show little change in the percentage of Botox users who are in their teens and 20s.
The most prominent research about Botox as a wrinkle-preventer involved just two patients. In the study, a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills compared two identical twins, one who started getting Botox shots at age 25 and one who mostly abstained. After 13 years, at age 38, Botox user had fewer wrinkles than her uninjected sister.
Some doctors who administer Botox say the sooner a patient begins a regular routine of Botox injections, the sooner the muscles weaken and can no longer form wrinkles that are hard to erase.
With repeated Botox shots, patients’ wrinkle-forming muscles atrophy, so injections are needed less frequently, plastic surgeon Dr. Lavinia Chong of Newport Beach said.
Dr. Christopher Zachary, chairman of the UC Irvine Department of Dermatology, said, “Botulinum toxin will indeed relax the same muscles that are responsible for the creation of overlying wrinkles. Early use of this medication is indeed likely to prevent the onset of wrinkles overlying that particular muscular region.”
He added, “Patients who suffer a stroke, and whose facial muscles are paralyzed on one side, will have a dramatic reduction of wrinkles on that same side …. It’s the same principle.”
Dr. Marcel Daniels, Long Beach based plastic surgeon, said, “The wrinkles most associated with muscle contraction are frown and forehead lines as well as crow’s feet. If those muscles are taken out of the picture, either through Botox or facial paralysis, those lines won’t form.”
Plastic surgeon Dr. Val Lambros of Newport Beach said, “The people who get wrinkles the most are people who have animated foreheads and concentration frowns. It would make sense that suppressing this motion would block the formation of these wrinkles in this group.”
But he added, “It would require pretty continuous treatment for a long time.”
Plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Niccole in Newport Beach has seen increase in patients using Botox in a wrinkle-prevention strategy.
“People are interested in not only treating lines but also preventing them from forming. Because of this, there has been an increase of people that start getting treatments before there are signs of wrinkles. Patients are starting treatments as young as their early twenties,” he said.
